Nashville Floods

Just updates for those of you who enjoyed our city last summer and are familiar with places: The Opryland Hotel, Opryhouse, and Opry Mills are all flooded with several feet of water. The water pumping station in that part of town is also underwater, so pretty serious. Our convention hotel high on the hill is fine, however, the roads getting to it and the MetroCenter/Titans training camp facility is flooded. Downtown, the Cumberland River is at 53 feet now and has not yet crested; currently water is up to around 3rd Avenue (the places some of you "explored" are on 2nd avenue; The Symphony hall basement is flooded and water is up to the Country Music Hall of Fame, but no damage there yet. Downtown Franklin which some of you toured was also hit pretty hard. Schools are out for a 2nd "flood day" tomorrow. Nashville has several schools that were flooded and electricity is off for some segments of the city (compounded by the fact that some of Nash. Electric Service stations and equipment are underwater, so they can't help people). I'm on the "upside" of a hill, but 2 blocks from me is Old Hickory Lake and it flooded several homes on that end. We're going to make it, but it'll take some time to get back to normal! Keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

  1. JEFF: Thanks for taking the time to post this update on the Nashville situation. How about our ASBDA members that served the convention so well? JIM SEWREY

  2. On the recovery side now. Nashville schools were closed for an entire week. Some of our members had some flooding problems, but none lost their homes, etc. Some schools in the area have called off school for the rest of the year due to damage. Haven't had an update on ASBDA members, but as we've said around here, we are the "volunteer" state, and there has been a lot of local help. Soundstage where lots of historic instruments and equipment for touring bands were stored was flooded and many priceless instruments were destroyed. Two Steinway grands in the Schermerhorn Hall were submerged. The Opryland Hotel/Opry Mills/Opryhouse complex will probably be November before they open again. Damage estimates now are over 1.5 Billion dollars. The current slogan is "We are Nashville" and everybody understands that we'll all be back! Thanks!
